G’day!

I’m Jodie, the music composer who lives in the old Redruth Methodist Church with my husband Emlyn and our two little white dogs. In 2026 I’m going to make a new classical piece of music with anyone in Burra who’d like to get involved. Together we’ll make a piece that’s truly about our town.

If you’re a musician, that’s great. If you’re not, that’s fine. Orchestra is a loose term, we’ll make our own based on who comes and what you want to do! If you defs don’t want to make music, there are other ways you can get involved.

I’ve written music before with groups of people, but a whole town is the biggest project I’ve ever done, so that’s pretty awesome.

Get in touch about anything you’d like to know or ask. jodie@redruthstudio.com

Here’s the plan.

WRITING WORDS - April

I’ll put up boards around town where we can write and read each other’s stories. Then I’ll take everyone’s words, put them together and make lyrics.

MUSIC WORKSHOPS - June t0 July

We’ll have some workshops to come up with ideas for the melodies and the instruments for our orchestra.  The Men’s Shed have already started making some new instruments. And we could use other things like old farm gear, water tanks, or anything that makes an interesting sound like teapots, teacups and teaspoons. Then I’ll take the ideas and make a full score.

PREPARING AND PERFORMANCE - September to October

We’ll rehearse and then perform and record in the Town Hall on October 17, joined by some visiting professional musicians who’ll be here on tour.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET INVOLVED

Let me know if you’d like to:

  • perform or help with the performance

  • get involved in a workshop. Everyone will be welcome. If you’re a muso, you can jam ideas. If you’re not a muso, come and listen. If you’re not a muso yet but you’d like to be, perfect!

  • suggest ideas for instruments or make your own instrument or run an instrument making workshop

  • host a board. Do you have a place that could host a board, somewhere people pass by, with a wall space? Somewhere you can keep an eye on to prevent vandalism?

  • suggest another idea.

  • write on a board. Tell your Burra story.

THANK YOU

I’m really excited to make our very own piece of classical music for our town! We’ve got good stories to tell.

This project is supported by NEOEN through their Community Benefit Fund. Thank you Neoen!
