O'REGAN SINGS O'REGAN: JAMES PLAYS OCTAVIA
22 Aug 2026 - 7pm (doors open 6pm)
We are so very excited to have pianist James come up, for our first “Octavia” concert of piano repertoire.
Part of the the dream for our music studio/home/country church , was having the space for “Octavia Rose” our beautiful Yamaha piano. We are so excited to welcome pianist James Huon George up to the studio to show what Octavia can do. James’ program will include Franz Liszt’s “Sancta Dorothea", Schubert’s “12 Viennese Dances” and some Charminade.
After finishing his Masters of Music Performance at the con last year, James has already established a profile in South Australia. He’s performed in recitals at UKARIA, Tempo Rubato, Recitals Australia, Elder Hall and Baroque Hall, performed as concerto soloist with local orchestras, and been broadcast on 5MBS, Radio Adelaide, 5EBI and ABC Classic FM. James . His repertoire is wide, from Baroque music through to new work, and he has a particular love for Australian composers. Alongside his performing life, James curates concerts, and enjoys working with emerging Australian musicians.
To round out the program, Emlyn will take the opportunity of a visiting pianist to present his favourite songs of mine. The story of Emlyn’s and my lives together is about shared music. He sings every day, from when he brings me coffee in the morning, to the final song, carrying the dogs up the stairs to bed. His voice is in my head when I compose and even when I write for other singers, he is the first singer to sing the songs, giving them a test sing for me before I send them out. I think this will be a first, in all our years of making music together, Emlyn has never performed a program of my art-songs and I think it will be a very special night.
Emlyn has a wide scope as a singer - equally at home in classical, jazz and a range of folk, blues and roots music. He performs classical baritone repertoire as a soloist and ensemble member in oratorio, opera and other works, including premiering several pieces composed for him. Emlyn is a sought after a cappella singer, drawing on his diverse background to create and perform signature vocal basslines and solos. He has toured Australia performing at folk festivals and other events in his duo with Jodie O’Regan, and has appeared on film and TV as a singer and technology commentator.
The concert starts at 7pm. The church will be open from 6pm for bubbles.
If you’re local, we’ll do potluck supper so please bring a plate to share.
