Noël and Gertie, Down and Dirty

14 Nov 2025 - 7pm (doors open 6pm)

“A queer love story for our times.”

As part of SA’s 2025 Feast Festival, we are so very excited to host this award winning cabaret revue with an absolute stellar cast.

Playwright and composer Noël Coward and actress Gertrude Lawrence were lifelong friends, collaborators, icons of stage and song, and LGBTQIA+ stars of the early part of the 20th century. This musical revue celebrates their extraordinary lives and friendship with 22 absolute bangers: songs by Coward, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, and more.

This show is funny, mischievous, moving, and superbly sung. Winner of the 2024 Adelaide Fringe Critics Circle Award, it sold out in Sydney performances and Adelaide’s 2024 Feast Festival.

Now coming to our studio in Burra as part of a Mid North tour. Here’s the cast:

Mariette Rups-Donnelly – the original Val in A Chorus Line and the only woman to perform Evita eight shows a week. She now lives up our way near Moonta, she continues to perform and inspire as a singer and speaker.

Deborah Caddy – Deborah’s career spans Opera Australia, State Opera SA, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music. Her voice is renowned for its power and warmth.

Mark Oates – a South Australian favourite, equally at home in opera, cabaret, and even circus acts. His recent triumph was in Watershed: The Death of Dr Duncan, which played to sold-out houses at Sydney Opera House and the Adelaide Festival.

Jonathan Mill – a veteran of Australian theatre, Jonathan has worked with the major theatre companies in Australia, on numerous TV shows, and toured nationally and internationally for over four decades. He has written and directed many cabaret shows and brings depth and charm to every role.

Carol Young (Musical Director) – a highly regarded performer and educator, Carol’s credits include Sweeney Todd, End of the Rainbow, and State Opera productions. Her artistry anchors the show with musical precision and flair.

The concert starts at 7pm. The church will be open from 6pm for bubbles. If you’re local, we’ll do potluck supper so please bring a plate to share. This is a private house concert, if you’d like to come please RSVP (jodie@redruthstudio.com) Suggested donation at the door $10 - $20.

Noël and Gertie, Down and Dirty is a clever melange of the history and works of Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence, their private lives and their connection with LGBTQIA+ today. Go and see it, even if you have never heard of Noël and Gertie, they were the queer crusaders of their time!
